The Sadness Continues Three Days After

I'm still kind of at a loss for words over the sadness and loss from the school shooting in Newtown, CT. I cry for the parents with children ripped from their lives just before the happiest day of the year for most kids, Christmas. I find it hard to watch the news but can't seem to stay away from the coverage. Have you talked with your kids about Friday's events? How did you handle it, if you did talk to them? Maybe I'm not doing it correctly, but I just told them if you see a weapon in school, hear of someone wanting to bring one in or know of a threat you tell a teacher or a school employee you trust. I also told them that the odds are it will never happen at your school and not to be paranoid. I reassured them too, that the police and teachers are trained to handle these things and try not to think about it.
