You Won’t Believe Where in Central Maine This Crazy Photo Was Captured!
Remember a couple years ago when Dave Dostie snagged this insane photo of the Northern Light right here in Central Maine? Yeah, we do too. That's why we decided to bring it back and share it again.
Maine photographer, Dave Dostie, says in all his years of taking pictures, he's only ever captured the elusive Northern Lights one other time, and that was about six years ago.
Well it happened again. At about 9:45 in the evening in November of 2021, Dave captured this remarkable photo of the Aurora Borealis.
If you can believe it, this photo was taken just off of Route 105 on the little bridge that separates Big & Little Togus ponds. This photo was taken facing northeast looking over Big Togus.
According to Space.com
Energized particles from the sun slam into Earth's upper atmosphere at speeds of up to 45 million mph (72 million km/h), but our planet's magnetic field protects us from the onslaught. As Earth's magnetic field redirects the particles toward the North Pole, the dramatic process transforms into a cinematic atmospheric phenomenon that dazzles and fascinates scientists and skywatchers alike.
It's not super-common for New Englanders to see the Northern Lights, so when it happens it's really special.
