There is a lot I am going to miss about the Kennebec Valley area, but I have grown very fond of three local restaurants…and now I have to find new favorites in Florida. Central Maine has a bunch of great places to eat, but over time I have discovered, I have three I kept gravitating to on a regular basis.

Lisa's Legit Burrito in Downtown Augusta

So much to like here for me. LLB has excellent food and can easily make meals that are vegetarian and vegan. It is so easy for me to get to since it is in Downtown Augusta. But it is the people, Ehrin and Jay Simanski, who have become family to me. So I will miss the food…but I will miss seeing them on a regular basis even more.

Wander Pizza on Western Avenue in Augusta

I like pizza, and I am not much of a pizza snob, but I was hooked the first time I had a slice of Wander Pizza. Wander has great cheese pizza and lots of unique combinations. But Wander Pizza does something that not a lot of pizza places do, and that is they have their quality pizzas available by the slice! I don't have to get a whole pizza! They have a punch card to earn a free slice now and then.

Sweet Chilli Thai at the Augusta State Airport

I was sad to hear that Sweet Chilli Thai was closing on June 26th. The food is excellent, and I always enjoy it when planes are taking off from the airport. I am like Pad Thai with tofu, and they made a good one. The good news is they are reopening as Pinto, a Thai takeout restaurant, and a select Asian Market on State Street in Augusta. Pinto plans to open in the fall.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.
