Trick or Treat Through History at This Maine Museum’s Free Event

There are going to be dozens of Halloween events over the next few weeks.  There'll be trunk-or-treats at stores, in our downtowns, and at local churches.  There'll also be Halloween parties, haunted houses, and more.

Most of these events are very similar.  Families walk from station to station (trunks, rooms, whatever) collecting candy.  There may be some live music or a DJ and there may be a small haunted house or haunted trail.  Other than that, most of these events are pretty much the same.

There is one event on the Coast of Maine that is a little different.  It is an event that is still going to be a lot of fun for the kids, but kind of educational, too.

The Owls Head Transportation Museum is planning on holding a "Night at The Museum Living History" event.

According to the Facebook event page, they are encouraging families to dress up and go to the museum for trick-or-treating.  But, since this is a museum, they are going to turn it up a notch.  During the event, they'll have museum staffers acting as historical interpreters.  Those staffers will be dressed up as racecar drivers, pilots, inventors, movie stars, and more.  They'll be scattered throughout the museum telling guests the stories of "their lives".

The event is going to be held at the museum from 5 to 7 PM on Saturday, October 28th. And yes, it is free!

Normally, the museum is well worth the price of admission, but this is a great chance to check it out for free.

If you are unfamiliar, the museum is filled with classic cars, WWI era fighter planes, an old school camper, and a mockup of a Gemini space capsule.  The museum even has some video games that are meant to give the kids something to new to try.  There is a car driving simulator, a motorcycle racing game, and a jet airliner flight simulator.

There is even a room filled with century old motors.  They have a mix of industrial sized steam engines, diesel motors, and very basic gas powered engines.
