According to a Facebook post by the Maine State Police, a truck that was hauling hot patch pavement caught fire near mile marker 5 on Interstate 295 in South Portland this morning.

Police say that while crews were working to quell the fire, both north and southbound lanes were shut down as safety precautions. The incident happened Monday morning just after 9:00.

Police say the roads were closed for about three hours while they worked to clear the scene. Officials say that the truck hauling the hot pavement recently had some maintenance done to the propane heating system, and that may have been what caused the issue.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported and the roads are back open.
