Vassalboro Fire Department Responds to Early Friday Fire

According to a Facebook post by the Vassalboro Fire Department, crews responded to an early morning chimney fire at about 4:30 Friday morning. Details of the severity of the fire and it's exact location were not immediately available. However, several photos of the scene posted by the VFD made it appear as though the fire was well-contained.

We say it often, but not often enough. Thank you so much to Maine's volunteer first responders. These are our coworkers, our neighbors and often time our family members who put everything on the line at a moment's notice to stop whatever they are doing and step up to help those in need.

It's been a busy week for our friends at the Vassalboro Fire Department. Just last week they attempted a daring rescue of a young child stuck in the freezing water of the town's outlet stream after falling through.

This goes as multiple, and unrelated, reminders. Number one, never venture out on ice that you are unsure of and make sure you have the conversations with your children who may around or going near potentially dangerous ice conditions.

Number two, always make sure that you are getting your chimney cleaned on a regular basis. Build up of ash and soot can spell disaster for your home, especially in Maine's frigid months when so many people rely on their wood heat to keep warm.
