Veteran-Owned Augusta Coffee Shop Closing Indefinitely

There is no doubt that 2020 has been a very tough year for small, locally owned, businesses.  This is especially true for restaurants, coffee shops, and entertainment venues.  Sadly, the anti-coronavirus mandates that have been put in place by the government have not been kind to that type of business.

According to a post on their Facebook page, Huiskamer Coffee Shop, located on Water Street in Augusta, will be closing permanently at 2 PM this afternoon (December 23rd).

In the post, they explain that Governor Mills' executive orders and the Maine CDC are the reason for their closure.

The post says, in part:

As veterans, living with service-connected disabilities is tough enough, but under Maine’s current “LeAdErShIp” it’s no longer possible for some disabled people to be a part of society.

Opening in February of 2019, the local coffee shop offered coffee drinks (from basic to fancy) and treats (cookies, etc).  The walls were adorned with artwork done by the masters - making it a very cool place to hang out.  The name means "living room" in Dutch.
