Unless a town is either loaded with bars, like Las Vegas, or completely "dry", we can't really logically call one town or city "drunker" than any other.  A certain segment of the population of any town or city is going to imbibe on a regular basis.  Other people, of course, will rarely or never drink a beer or have a Jack & Coke.

But, let's face it, there are towns and cities in every state whose residents are perceived as being more prone to getting their drink on.

A survey done by Matt Shirley, of Matt Shirley Charts, has determined the "drunkest" city in each state.

Of course, as we are in New England, we'll just take a look at the "drunkest" cities in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.

Lewiston, Maine

As one of the state's larger cities, it probably does not surprise many people to see Lewiston listed as Maine's "drunkest" city.  Lewiston has a population of about 37,000 people, according to the US Census.  As a former mill town, the city does have a gritty reputation where there are a lot of hard-drinking blue-collar people.

Additionally, Bates College, a USM campus, and several other colleges help to make it a city of drinkers.

Manchester, New Hampshire

Just like Lewiston, Manchester is another former mill town.  However, Manchester is significantly larger than Lewiston.  According to the US Census, it has just over 115,000 residents.  This makes Manchester one of the bigger cities in New England.

And, again like Lewiston, the city is home to several colleges.

And, as we all know, when they are not studying, college kids love to party!

Boston, Massachusetts

The largest city in New England is also one of the drunkest.  To be fair, it is not one of the drunkest because it is the largest.  The city is home to several colleges and it is known for being the place to go to have a good time!  There is a reason why people make road trips from all over New England to celebrate their birthdays, bachelor parties, bachelorette parties, graduations, etc.
