If you have driven past Damon's Beverage Mart on Bangor Street in Augusta in the last few days, you may have noticed some demolition taking place.  I spotted it on Monday morning as I was driving into work.  Construction equipment was in the process of tearing down a trio of old buildings.

So, what's the deal?

It's great news if you are a regular customer of that Damon's location - they're getting a new building with a much larger parking lot!

The plan, which is expected to take the better part of a year to complete, will take place in several phases.  First, the older buildings (an apartment building and two old garages) adjacent to the store will be taken down.  Then, fill will be brought in and the land will be allowed to settle.

Next, sometime around October,  a new steel building will be constructed on that lot.  The new building will be about 8,000 square feet - much larger than the current location.

Once that is finished, the old Damon's location will be torn down and turned into a parking lot.

According to the owners, the entire process is hoped to be completed by Memorial Day of 2022.

When the construction and move are completed, the store will have double the parking it currently has.  In addition, getting in and out of the parking lot will be much easier.

We're all super excited for the amazing staff at Damon's Beverage Mart and looking forward to shopping at this new location.
