To look at this beautiful photo of the St. Jean family of Monmouth, one would think it's a perfect life. But, behind the smiles, there's a sad truth that has brought this family of 4 (their newest addition, Josh, was born ten weeks ago) to their knees.

Mike, who is just 43, has been battling a cancerous brain tumor, off and on, for about the past decade. It actually went into remission for quite awhile. Now, it is back and it's inoperable and Mike is receiving end of life care from Hospice at the family's home.

Mike is a manager at TD Bank but had to stop working in August. Stephanie used up her leave time at CMMC after the birth of Josh. Naturally, she want to spend every bit of time she can with her husband who, she says, could pass away at any time.

Enter Mike and Sue Jillson of Fielder's Choice Ice Cream. On Saturday, they'll be giving away a bunch of their homemade ice cream at their Sabattus location. Here's the information (from Fielder's Choice Facebook page):

Please join us for Fielder's Choice Ice Cream Benefit for Mike and Stephanie St. Jean and their two young children.
Mike and Stephanie St. Jean are from Monmouth. Mike was diagnosed with a brain tumor some time ago. Despite treatment, the tumor has continued to grow, and his family has been given the prognosis of anywhere from a couple of weeks to at most two months. At this point, Stephanie is out of work, and their income is minimal. Their oldest son is 3 1/2, and their youngest son is just a little over two months old.
On Saturday, January 17, 2015, from 12-5 PM (or while supplies last) we will have limited flavors of hard serve ice cream available in dishes or on a cone (size small). Donations for the ice cream will be accepted at that time, and all money collected will be donated directly to the St. Jean family.
Hard serve flavors available include:
*cotton candy (3 buckets)
*cherry vanilla (2 buckets)
*orange pineapple (4 buckets)
*strawberry (4 buckets)
*chocolate almond (very limited)
*sugar-free black raspberry (2 buckets)
Again, the only items available will be the hard serve listed above in either a cone or a dish. We will not have sundaes, shakes, etc., and when the ice cream is gone, that will be it.

If you can't make it but would still like to help, donations can be sent to etiher:

or

Please, if you send a check, note in the memo section that it is a donation for the St. Jean family.

The Jillsons and St. Jeans know each other from attending Community Baptist Church together.

According to an article in the Kennebec Journal, the family has received an outpouring of support including heating fuel from Pro-Tech Heating and Community Baptist Church.
