Shawna Lynne Grady is a local girl who graduated from Erskine Academy in South China. Suddenly, she's attracting attention all across the country and, most likely, internationally, thanks to a cover of Sam Smith's "Stay with Me," she posted on Youtube. Her voice is unbelievable. She's sweet, beautiful and talented. In short, the complete package....

Shawna told me how humbled she is by the attention she's getting. That attention has been in the form of 90, 000+ views in a week (2 separate videos of the song).

I didn't mention that Shawna suffers from a skin disease because, really, that doesn't matter. However, she has no problem addressing what people will undoubtedly wonder about, so she puts it right out there:

My name is Shawna and I was born with a rare skin disorder called Ichthyosis. While it is certainly a big part of my life, it doesn't define it... It's something I have, but it's not who I am. That being said, opening myself up to public scrutiny is something I have always struggled with. I love to sing - Music is absolutely my passion but I recognize that it is a severely image based industry. I also realize that such industries will never change if no one ever challenges them. So here it goes... this is me challenging you to listen rather than look... Here's hoping you like what you hear.

Now, here's one of the videos getting all the attention!
