Is MTV as Important to Youth Today as it Was in the 80s?

MTV turns 33 today! They too go old and outgrew pop music. *rim shot*

Alright, that's everyone's favorite complaint about MTV, they no longer play videos on the regular. The obvious response is, why would they? With Youtube and band sites all music videos are pretty much on demand.

What I miss about MTV is their news and documentaries. They just now seem to just run reality programming for their prime audience which is fine. I guess it's that I have nothing in common with pregnant teens and early 20 something who like to create TV drama in MTV reality shows but I get why the shows work.

The question I want answered, do young people still watch MTV today with the same passion as they did when music videos were at a premium? Maybe better put, is MTV still relevant?
