In West Gardiner is now $1.75. I remember the good ol’ days when it was only half a dollar!  Tolls for cars went up to $3 at the toll plaza in York, to $2.25 in New Gloucester. Tolls will also go up from $1 to $1.50 at the northbound entrance in Wells and the southbound entrance in Gray. If you use an E-ZPass the cost is up on average by 1 cent per mile. If you drive the Maine Turnpike Augusta to York is has gone from $5 to $7.

All of this will whip up an extra $21 million a year to cover the turnpike's operating budget, maintenance and long-term debt service. Let’s face it, they do a great job of taking care of the Maine Turnpike. The last toll increase was in February 2009
