It's a tragic end to what started out as a missing persons story earlier this week.

According to WGME 13, Jerry Allen, 76 of York, Maine, was originally reported missing after he was last seen at the American Legion in York on Wednesday afternoon at about 11 am.

Friends and family believe that Allen originally returned to his home after leaving the American Legion on Wednesday because they found his personal items and his vehicle there. Though Allen was nowhere to be found.

We've received an update from WGME that explains Allen was found deceased on Thursday afternoon at around 2 in the afternoon.

At this time, there are very few details about the death. We don't know where exactly Allen's body was found or what the manner surrounding the death was.

Police have said however that they do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the public. York Police tell WGME that their investigation into Allen's death is ongoing and that details are likely to be released at a later date when the investigation concludes.

Our thoughts go out to Allen's friends and family during this extremely difficult time.

We will continue to keep this story updated as more information about the incident is released from the York, Maine Police Department and our media partners at WGME 13.
