Spring of 2021 is starting out with a different tone than it did for millions of Americans and for older Americans things are looking up!

That is because millions of older Americans are fully vaccinated.  That is to say, they have had both of their COVID vaccines and are 14 days past the date of the last vaccine so they are set. Couple that with the nicer weather and things starting to open and get back to some fashion of ‘normal’.

The lovely story in the Kennebec Journal online today pointed out that one of the big things people are doing is seeing their grandkids and their parents.  Not a Zoom not on Facetime…but to give them a big old, in-person with a big kiss kind of hug.

There will be more in the way of an older family member getting together with family and friends. It has been a long year and for people cut off from their social circle, it has felt like longer than a year.  Even the simple act of going out to lunch or strolling a store, even a grocery, store feels almost like a luxury.

That is not to say anyone should be throwing caution to the wind, still paying attention to washing hands, wearing that mask, keep one's distance are all good ideas.

I know there is much talk about a second wave as we are seeing more people traveling, spring break is in full swing, people are feeling more confident and just weary of the protocols.  There are also the variants of the COVID-19 we keep reading about.  The bottom line is I don't think we are not out of the woods…yet.

LOOK: Answers to 30 common COVID-19 vaccine questions

While much is still unknown about the coronavirus and the future, what is known is that the currently available vaccines have gone through all three trial phases and are safe and effective. It will be necessary for as many Americans as possible to be vaccinated in order to finally return to some level of pre-pandemic normalcy, and hopefully these 30 answers provided here will help readers get vaccinated as soon they are able.
