Shots Fired at Police During Armed Standoff in Augusta, Maine Monday Morning

A standoff happened in the city of Augusta, Maine as of early Monday morning according to Augusta Police.

In a press release sent out at 6:44 am Monday by interim Augusta Police Chief, Kevin Lully, it was reported that the events began late Sunday night. Lully explains that at about 11pm on Sunday night, police responded to 132 Northern Avenue in Augusta.

Upon their arrival, officers quickly learned that a subject inside the residence had been threatening other people. Lully explains that contact was made with the subject and at that time he opened fire at uniformed police.

At that time, three Augusta Police officers and a Capitol Police officer all returned fire. None of the officers were injured during the exchange of gunfire. Lully went on to say in part in his release,

Sergeant Derek Daley, Officer Matthew Gurney, Officer Andrew Frost and Officer Jonathan Young from Augusta P.D were involved in the incident. Officer Ryan Frost from Capitol Police was also involved. None of the Officers were injured as a result of this incident and the status of the male subject is unknown at this time.

Per our Standard Operating Procedure, Sergeant Daley, Officer Gurney, Officer Frost and Officer Young have been placed on administrative leave with pay. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved in this heartbreaking incident.
