What to do in Maine if Your Plow Truck Doesn’t Fit in The Garage

Admittedly I am not the sharpest knife in the block. Nope, certainly not the brightest bulb in the box nor the most useful tool in the shed. I am none of those things. Though, every once in a while, I have a stroke of genius.

Ever since I bought my Ram 3500 Crew Cab, I’ve had a bit of trouble fitting it into the garage. It can be done, but it needs to be done delicately because there is literally 0 room for error. And, when the winter time rolls around  and it’s time to put the ol’ Fisher V-plow on, forget about it!

For the last couple years, when the plow goes on before a storm, I’ve been forced to leave the truck outside in the elements and to get covered in snow while the other vehicles stay dry and protected from winter’s wrath. It sucks because the following day I always have to go out and clean the truck off before I can start plowing. Also, I need a step ladder to clean the roof off (I wish I was joking). But yesterday, it hit me.

There is enough of a space between the grill of my truck and the headgear of the plow, that I should be able to back up precisely to where my garage door would close between the two. Now, the garage door won’t close ALL the way, but close enough to keep the truck and most of the garage dry.

With the help and guidance of my oldest son, Evan, I was able to back the truck into the garage at the exact right spot to get the door to close between the two. This is what it looks like right now. As you can see, a little bit of snow has been allowed into the garage, but that it a way quicker cleanup than having to brush off the old 1-ton. Oh, and if you’re going to try this at home, disconnect your garage door from the automatic opener and do this MANUALLY! You will buckle the mechanisms if you put the door down using the opened and it hits your plow frame.
