$3 Million Worth of Incredibly Deadly Fentanyl Delivered to Central Maine Restaurant

It seems like each and every time we report on a substantial drug bust in the State of Maine, there is another one the very next day. Well, it didn't take long for the outstanding police work of Maine officers to take down another suspected drug trafficker. Albeit, this guy made it pretty easy for police to track him down and charge him with the crimes.

According to WGME 13, a Central Maine man basically 'ordered' $3 million worth of fentanyl and had it delivered to a restaurant in the area. Police tell the news station that a crate was delivered to an Auburn, Maine restaurant this past Friday afternoon.

Workers at the undisclosed restaurant were excepting the container to be filled with new mugs that they had ordered. However, when the crate was opened, employees were shocked to find the crate filled with millions of dollars worth of illicit drugs.

But, how were officials going to figure out who was responsible for having all this fentanyl shipped into Maine? Yup, you guessed it. The guy's name was on the damn box. Not super-smart, is it?

Fortunately for Maine police, using the shipping name on the box of drugs, police were quickly able to track down Jeremy Mercier, 41 of Auburn, when he came to the restaurant looking for the 'package'. Police then charged the man with importing and trafficking in drugs, according to WGME.

This, as you might imagine, isn't Mercier's first drug-related run-in with law enforcement. Mercier was charged with a similar crime back in 2007 for distribution of cocaine. Police also took almost $3,000 in cash from Mercier during the arrest. That cash, according to police, is likley proceeds from drug sales.
