Over the last couple of years they've grown in popularity and in numbers. Of course we're talking about the ever-elusive Maine ice disks.

Of course the most famous Maine ice disk, the one covered by national media, has been showing up year after year in the Presumpscot River in Southern Maine. Though there have been a couple others to date, the latest seems to be a much smaller one in a little brook in the town of Burlington, Maine.

For starters, I didn't even realize there was a Burlington, Maine. When I heard about this I thought they obviously must be talking about Vermont. Nope, it's in Maine! It's actually up by Passadumkeag. Of course, I don't really know where that is either, so no real help there.

Facebook user, Kathi Bryan Doyle, just happened to come across the phenomenon in Bear Brook off of Madagascal Pond Rd in Burlington. According to WABI TV 5, the 'ice pancakes', as they call them, "form as a result of a current and vortex under the ice, ice sheets then begin to spin and then form into circles."
