
Woman Dies After Being Hit by Train in Brunswick, Maine
A woman is dead after being hit by a train in Brunswick on Tuesday afternoon.
According to Brunswick Police, officers responded to the area near Bibber Parkway around 3:15 p.m. after receiving a report that a pedestrian had been struck by a train.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a woman dead on the railroad tracks. Police say she had been hit by the Amtrak Downeaster as the train was approaching Brunswick Station, WGME reported.
The train came to a stop on the tracks after the incident. Officials said the train crew and 18 passengers were still on board at the time. No injuries were reported among those on the train.
Police noted that the section of railroad tracks where the woman was struck is not located near sidewalks or road crossings.
According to investigators, the woman had parked her vehicle in a nearby parking lot before walking to the area of the tracks where she was hit. Police say the incident is not considered suspicious.
The woman’s name has not been released.
The railroad tracks were closed for approximately two hours while police and emergency crews responded to the scene and conducted their investigation.
The Amtrak Downeaster provides passenger rail service between Brunswick, Maine, and Boston, with several stops along the way.
Police have not released any additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
