April 7 is 'Great American Buy Local Day'

Wednesday, April 7, 2021 is Great American Buy Local Day.

What is that?

It is EXACTLY what it sounds like! The local chambers of commerce are encouraging people to continue to support local business. Let’s face it for most local businesses the last year has been….hard. When you support local businesses, you support the community and the people those business employees.

How can I help?

You can go and do business with a local place…eat in a local restaurant, buy a gift card or use that service. You can do something as easy as leaving a positive review for a business you like or just share some positive experiences about local businesses on your social media or with a friend.

For example...I am thinking of lunch at Lisa's Legit Burritos in Downtown Augusta, a stop at Fuller Market in West Gardiner, and maybe a massage at Zardus Art of Massage in Gardiner. OK, OK...I probably can't do that all tomorrow...but I can choose to do business with these and other local businesses and services.

I love this idea as a way to refocus on local businesses but remember them every day.

The 2020 County Health Rankings values were calculated using mortality counts from the 2016-2018 National Center for Health Statistics. The U.S. Census 2019 American Community Survey and America's Health Rankings Senior Report 2019 data were also used to provide demographics on the senior population of each state and the state's rank on senior health care, respectively.
