Arrest Made In 36 Year Old Maine Cold Homicide Case

An arrest has been made in the nearly four decade old case of a murdered infant.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, Maine State Police detectives traveled to Lowell, Massachusetts on Monday (June 13th) to arrest the mother of Baby Jane Doe.

Arrested was 58 year old Lee Ann Daigle, formerly Lee An Guerette, of Lowell, Massachusetts.

On December 7th, 1985, a dog carried the body of the infant from where she was left to the canine's home in Frenchville.  At the time, detectives were able to retrace the path the dog had taken in order to determine where the baby had been found.  It was determined the child had been born and then was allegedly left to die in the freezing temperatures.

Advancement in genetic testing and genealogy allowed for the identification of the victim's mother.

The press release goes on to say, in part:

This case was the culmination of decades worth of investigative work from dozens of now retired and current detectives who never gave up finding answers and justice for Baby Jane Doe.  Over the past two years or so, Detective Jay Pelletier of the State Police Unsolved Homicide Unit and also from Aroostook County has headed up this investigation. Det. Pelletier worked alongside of Detective Chad Lindsey of Major Crimes Unit North which is out of Bangor and Houlton and covers Aroostook County. Detectives Pelletier and Lindsay have chased every lead and spent countless hours working and following new leads that helped identify Baby Jane Doe’s mother.

Daigle has been charged with murder and is being held at the Aroostook County Jail in Houlton.
