Today, August 20th is ‘National Radio Day.’ Whether you’re in the car, on the beach, poolside or at work make sure to keep us on for your listening pleasure. Radio can be a friend at night when you can’t sleep, it can help the workday feel faster, it can give atmosphere to a party and it can be the lifeline in times of emergency.

Over the years we’ve seen AM stereo, 45s, carts (which look and act like 8 tracks), CDs but now most stations use some sort of digital audio system. Back in the day we recorded phone calls to reel to reel, now we use audio software. No more razors and tape!

What got me wanting to do radio as a child? I guess, over all thinking it would be fun. I thought I could play music for a living and be famous? I don’t know. It’s a bug you get like maybe kids who want to be teachers or police officers get. I think ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’ was a lot of my inspiration. Or maybe it was the other way around?

Who are my national broadcast idols? Rick Dees is up there, I used to dig Shadoe Stevens when he did a weekly countdown back in the mid 80s. From Canada, Tarzan Dan, and Steve Anthony from Much-Music

AM/FM broadcast radio is still a very viable medium with life and growth. Yes, radio is in a constant state change and morphing but so long as people drive there will be people listening to a local DJ with local takes and talking about local events.
