Augusta Downtown Alliance Receives $50,000 Grant From T-Mobile
The Augusta Downtown Alliance had its annual meeting on Tuesday at the Raging Bull Saloon in downtown Augusta
The meeting was attended by local business owners, members of the media, and local politicians
Toward the end of the meeting, two representatives of T-Mobile presented the alliance with a $50,000 art grant.
The grant will be used to purchase and install 25 six foot long fiberglass sturgeon. The hope for the project is that it will be installed by early summer 2022.
Michael Hall, executive director of the Augusta Downtown Alliance, compared the fish, which are known to inhabit the Kennebec River in great numbers, with the business people of downtown Augusta. The sturgeon swim upstream just like the business people of Augusta have persevered through the difficulties of the last few years… the pandemic, etc.
In addition to the presentation of the grant, a recap of how far the organization has come in the last few years was also given during the meeting. On top of that, Victoria Abbot was voted in as the new president and Shawn McLaughlin was voted in as the organizations' vice president.
