Create Lasting Christmas Memories in Augusta, Maine with Gingerbread Houses and Storytime
The holiday season is officially underway, and families are invited to kick off the Christmas spirit with a fun and cozy evening before Santa’s arrival next week.
The Gingerbread Build-off & Story Night, hosted by the City of Augusta Parks, Recreation & Childcare, offers a relaxed and festive way for kids and families to enjoy a classic holiday tradition together.
The event will take place on Friday, December 19, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Buker Community Center. Designed with families in mind, the evening combines hands-on creativity, seasonal treats, and a beloved holiday story to create a memorable experience for all ages.
Each family or table will receive everything needed to decorate their own gingerbread house, including gingerbread pieces, icing, and a variety of festive decorations. Kids can let their imaginations run wild while parents join in the fun, making it a great opportunity for quality time during a busy season. Popcorn and hot cocoa will also be provided to add an extra touch of holiday comfort.
After decorating, families will gather for a special story time reading of “The Polar Express.” This classic Christmas story adds a calm and meaningful close to the evening, helping children settle into the excitement and anticipation of the holiday season.
