Augusta police responded to an apparent homicide on Flagg Street late Monday night, according to the city’s dispatch log.

According to The Kennebec Journal, multiple police and rescue units were called to the small residential street near downtown at 11:13 p.m. Monday. One ambulance transported a patient to a nearby hospital, the log shows. Officers remained on scene into the early morning hours, leaving at approximately 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

In an email Tuesday, Augusta Police Department Chief Kevin Lully said the department is assisting the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit with an investigation into an incident that occurred overnight in Augusta.

Lully referred all further questions to Shannon Moss, public information officer for the Maine Department of Public Safety, who did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

As of 9 a.m. Tuesday, a Maine State Police evidence collection vehicle remained parked on Flagg Street, indicating the investigation was ongoing.
