Jet With 6 On Board Crashes at Bangor International Airport, Maine
Before news reports even broke about a possible plane crash in Bangor on Sunday night, social media was already full of area residents claiming they had heard some kind of a loud 'bang' or 'explosion' in the greater Bangor area.
According to WGME, a private jet carrying 6 people crashed during takeoff Sunday night at Bangor International Airport, prompting the airport to shut down and causing multiple flight disruptions.
The Federal Aviation Administration says a Bombardier Challenger 600 went down while departing Bangor around 7:45 p.m. The condition of the 6 people on board has not yet been confirmed.
Early reports indicate the aircraft was a business jet registered to a Houston-based company. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.
Bangor International Airport remains closed as of Monday morning, with numerous cancellations and diversions reported. Travelers are urged to contact their airline for the latest updates.
Officials are expected to provide more information during a briefing scheduled for 10 a.m. Monday.
