Try Not to Smile When You Watch Billy Joel Make This Kid’s Life [VIDEO]
When singer and pianist Billy Joel went to Vanderbilt University in January for a Q&A session on campus, he probably didn't think he'd get to play Fairy Godfather (it's a thing because we say it is).
But by the end of the night, he was practically holding a magic wand -- because he gave one dude the experience of a lifetime.
Vandy student Michael Pollack used his opportunity during the Q&A to ask quite a bold Q -- he requested the chance to play the piano while Billy sang 'New York State of Mind.' And Joel agreed.
"From there, it was just … foggy. It's hard to remember," Pollack later told the Vanderbilt Hustler (quotes via Gawker).
What follows is a pretty astounding thing: Michael's piano skills impressed even the Piano Man himself.
"Afterward ... he said that I was great, where are you from ... and I said, 'I'm a Long Islander just like you,'" Pollack recalled. "He was like, 'Cool.' Then I walked off, and that was it ... It was probably the greatest moment of my life, up to date.”
Joel's advice to the crowd after Michael Pollack went back to his seat? "Remember that name."
And maybe they will -- he recently signed with the performing rights organization BMI to work on some songs.
