Join The Final Bob Burns Memorial 5K This Weekend in Augusta, Maine
If you like running, walking, strolling, jogging or anything in-between, you don't want to miss the Bob Burns Memorial 5k this weekend in Augusta, Maine.
For the last 12 years, Kelly Theberge has been hosting this flagship event. Kelly, a longtime resident of Vassalboro, lost her father to brain cancer in 2006. Years later, she knew she had to do something.
A few years later Kelly created what is now known as Kelly's Cause For Brain Tumors and since its inception has donated nearly a quarter of a million dollars to the National Brain Tumor Society.
Over the years, the committee has hosted dozens of different events throughout Central Maine and beyond, but the one event that has always remained consistent is the Bob Burns Memorial 5K.
Though this event has been happening for more than a decade, the time has come for the curtain to close on it. Kelly, a wife and mom of two has become much busier than ever before and the time she once had for spearheading this massive event just isn't as available as it used to be.
While Kelly's Cause is still committed to doing other events each year that raise money for NBTS and local families that have been impacted by brain cancer, 2025 will be the final year for the BBM5K.
Though it's bittersweet, the memory of Bob Burns is sure to live on in all that Kelly does and all the events that the committee will continue to host.
