One of the best things about living in Maine is how we celebrate the holidays.  Between Thanksgiving and New Year's, there is something to do almost every weekend, from Christmas tree lightings to parades, visits with Santa, shopping events, tree festivals, fireworks, and more.

Nearly every town or city has their own event kicking off the Christmas season, and Boothbay Harbor is no exception.

According to a post on the Boothbay Lights Facebook page, the town's annual boat parade and fireworks display will take place on Saturday, December 2.

The fun gets kicked off at 3pm on Saturday afternoon, when Balmy Cruises brings Santa and his jolly crew across the harbor.  Between 3-5, the kids will have a chance to meet Santa at the giant pot buoy tree and participate in all kinds of fun activities.

The tree lighting is scheduled for 5:15.  After the tree is lit, you can stick around and sing some Christmas carols or sneak off to have some dinner at one of the area's great restaurants.

You want to make sure you're back at the waterfront by 6:45, though.  That's when the lighted boat parade gets kicked off.  There'll be a blessing of the boats, too.  A spectacular fireworks display will cap off the evening's fun.

Can you think of a better way to spend an afternoon with your family?
