This Maine Apple Orchard Lets You Pick Apples—Then Shoot Them Out of an Apple Cannon
Apple picking is already one of those fall activities that’s hard to beat, but one Maine orchard gives you another reason to visit: you can launch apples through the air.
Come for the Apples, Stay for the Apple Cannon
Brackett’s Orchards in Limington, Maine, isn’t just a place to wander through rows of apple trees filling a bag with your favorites. The orchard also has an apple cannon (or apple slingshot) where visitors can send apples flying toward targets.
And really, how often do you get to say you spent your afternoon shooting apples?
It adds a little friendly competition to a classic fall outing, especially if you’re visiting with kids or a group of friends. Pick your apples, grab some cider, and then see who has the best aim.
A Maine Orchard With Plenty of History
Brackett’s isn’t new to the apple business, either. The family-operated farm dates back to the 1780s, with apple trees first planted on the property in 1783. Today, you can find plenty of familiar apple varieties along with fresh cider and other seasonal favorites.
The pick-your-own orchard is located at 32 Staples Road in Limington, while Brackett’s also operates a farm stand nearby.
There are plenty of orchards where you can pick apples this fall, but one where you can send an apple sailing through the air? That’s a fall road trip with a little extra fun built in.
