A routine morning at Maine Pines Racquet and Fitness turned chaotic Thursday when a vehicle barreled through the building, crossing multiple tennis courts before finally coming to a stop.

According to WGME 13, police say the crash happened just before 10 a.m. at the Harpswell Road facility, where dozens of people were inside.

The car, a 2014 Jeep Cherokee, broke through an exterior wall, sped across four active tennis courts, plowed through the lobby, and ended up in another room. Witnesses say players and visitors scrambled to get out of the way, according to the news station.

The driver, a 72-year-old woman from Gray, sustained minor injuries. Another person was treated for cuts from flying glass. Both were transported to Mid Coast Hospital.

The Jeep was destroyed, and the fitness center has been closed due to extensive damage.

Police are still investigating, and no charges have been filed at this time.
