Paramount’s Transformers spinoff Bumblebee is on the fast track, and quickly gathering cast members. After Hailee Steinfeld, another rising star has just joined the Transformers family: Jorge Lendeborg Jr. has been cast as the male counterpart to Steinfeld’s heroine in the movie.

The Hollywood Reporter was mum on who Lendeborg Jr. will be playing, as all we know about the movies is that it’ll be set in the 1980s and Bumblebee will be back in his retro Volkswagen Beetle form. As he should be. You can actually see Lendeborg Jr. onscreen right now if you go see Spider-Man: Homecoming — he plays one of Peter Parker’s classmates.

With the inclusion of Isabella Moner in this year’s Transformers: The Last Knight, and the two youngsters cast in Bumblebee’s prequel, Paramount (and Hasbro) has finally seemed to remember that, oh, right, these movies are based on toys. For kids. Bumblebee will be geared toward a younger audience anyway — and is the perfect pick out of the Autobots to do so, since he is, well, the cutest.

Paramount wants to start production on the Bumblebee prequel sometime this year. Travis Knight, who directed Kubo and the Two Strings, will helm the project, with a script by Christina Hodson (Shut In). Bumblebee is slated for a June 8, 2018 release.
