Two Maine Women Arrested After Large Meth Bust in Charleston
Two women from Charleston are facing serious drug charges after a raid in Penobscot County turned up a large stash of meth, fentanyl, guns, and cash.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff's Office, deputies executed a search warrant Wednesday at a home on Puddledock Road in Charleston. A K-9 named Memphis helped with the search and quickly picked up the scent of drugs inside the house.
WGME 13 explained that what deputies found was more than a kilo of methamphetamine, nearly 13 grams of suspected fentanyl, six firearms, and a significant amount of cash. Authorities arrested 43-year-old Jessica Smock and 66-year-old Lou Ann Smock—both residents of the home.
The news station says that both women are now facing aggravated unlawful trafficking of schedule W drugs. In addition, Jessica Smock was charged with being a prohibited person in possession of firearms, while Lou Ann faces a separate unlawful trafficking charge.
They were taken to the Penobscot County Jail, and the case remains under investigation.
Law enforcement continues to crack down on illegal drug activity across Maine, especially as the opioid crisis, fueled by substances like fentanyl, continues to impact communities statewide.
