New information from the U.S. Census Bureau’s 2013 American Community Survey found that 10% of Maine women and 11 % of men in Maine are divorced. The cost to file for divorce in Maine is $120 and if both parties agree to terms and don’t need much help from lawyers, the process is quick after a mandatory 60-day “cooling off period.”

The majority of divorces in the state do not involve lawyers and even fewer ever make it trial. So even with a little lawyer involvement, a divorce in Maine is relatively inexpensive, around $500 to $1000 compared to surrounding states like Massachusetts and New Hampshire where lawyers charge more for services.

According to the story in the Bangor Daily News, the numbers for the national averages for divorced women is 9 % and men are 8.6 %.
