Ed Sheeran Is ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 7’s Musical Cameo
What Game of Thrones Season 7 apparently lost in a UFC fighter it gained in a New York Mets pitcher, but don’t worry about Season 7 forgoing the traditional cameo from the music world. Ed Sheeran will put in a likely-covert appearance with the penultimate season, to Maisie Williams’ delight.
The tidbit arrived out of the Game of Thrones SXSW presentation, wherein showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss would reveal no more about Sheeran’s Season 7 cameo than “For years we were trying to get Ed Sheeran on the show to surprise Maisie, and this year we finally did it.” The recent SNL star joins a list of musical cameos that includes Will Champion of Coldplay at the Red Wedding, Gary Lightbody of Snow Patrol as one of Locke’s men, Sigur Rós at Joffrey’s wedding, Of Monsters and Men scoring Arya’s Braavos play, and Mastodon fighting in the battle at “Hardhome.”
Elsewhere of Game of Thrones Season 7, now set for a July 16 premiere, a list of directors for the year has been announced along with rumors of some major set pieces and battles. Harry Potter star Jim Broadbent gave us surprising details of his “significant” role, while several notable returns have likely been revealed, along with an unexpected MLB cameo, and one recast.
We’ll hear more of Game of Thrones Season 7 in the coming weeks, but who might Sheeran crop up as?
