The thought of your home catching fire, especially when you're not home but your animals are, is a thought we don't often like to have running through our minds. But what happens when that thought becomes a terrifying reality?

Thankfully, when disaster strikes, we can rely on our Maine fire fighters to jump into action and come to our rescue when we need it most. That's exactly what happened on Sunday evening in Fairfield, Maine.

According to an article published by WABI TV 5, the emergency communications center began receiving calls about a house on fire at about 6pm on Sunday. Reports indicate that several calls came in about the apparent blaze.

Fire fighters quickly responded to the Maple Street home where they were able to get the fire under control and eventually knock it down completely. In addition to getting the fire out, the news station is reporting that first responders were successfully able to rescue eight dogs that were home at the time.

WABI goes on to report that there were no people in the home at the time of the fire. Emergency Medical Services personnel tended to the dogs following their rescue from the scorched home.

Amazingly, despite the severity of the fire and the number of pets that were inside the home, WABI is reporting that there were no injuries at the scene on Sunday.

At this time, the Maine Fire Marshall's Office is investigating what may have caused the Sunday afternoon fire on Maple Street in Fairfield.
