Five people have been injured following an incident at an Ellsworth Dollar General on Monday.

According to WGME 13, an elderly Maine man, 80, was attempting to park his truck in a spot outside of the Dollar General store when the truck suddenly accelerated and crashed through the front of the store, subsequently injuring five people.

According to Bill Trotter of WGME 13, the driver of the truck was uninjured in the crash. Currently there is no word on the severity of the injuries involved or if anyone required transport to medical facilities.

This is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available.

A witness of the crash told WGME in part,

”I was over there looking at something, and all of a sudden I heard this horrible noise. I thought maybe they’d dropped their boxes on the ground, because they had these boxes that they were trying to unload. And I heard screaming and hollering, and I went over and looked, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, there’s a truck in here.’ And there was smoke coming in. And then I came out to get in my car, and that’s what my car looked like. You know, you see it on videos. You don’t see it for real. But unfortunately today we did,”

Captain Shawn Willey of the Ellsworth Police Department in part,

“There were people in there shopping, workers at the cash registers when the vehicle entered, so yeah, emotions were high. There’s a lot of things going on. We’re going to continue to investigate the scene until we can find an explanation,”
