Last night, Fairpoint management and their employees couldn’t come to an agreement over a contract and so the telephone and internet providing company went on strike.

Largely the fight is about outsourcing and hiring non unionized workers. For example, billing, tech support and call center work. There is also unresolved haggling over benefits, like healthcare and pensions.

The strike affects more than 1700 workers.
