Every now and then I catch on to supermarket hi-jinx. Yes I noticed that sugar is now in 4 lb bags instead of 5 lb so to keep the price point at a level that wont raise too much alarm. But I've also suspected that healthy fats are gaining in price too. Especially with such popular diets as the Keto, and Paleo which encourage higher healthy fats.

According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, I'm correct!  Average price for avocados, butter, olive oil, and even salmon have all increased, sometimes as much as 60% in just the past 5 years.

Yes, we can mostly blame supply and demand. And to make matters worst, trends now with social media being so prevalent, are causing larger swings on a more global level than before, which means more and more people are eating more foods high in natural fats and we are paying for it in the stores.

Olives, almonds, and avocados can also only be grown in particular types of areas and they can take several years to start producing.
