One person was killed in a head-on crash Monday afternoon on Route 3 in Vassalboro, according to Maine State Police.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, Troopers from the Maine State Police Central Field Troop responded to the crash near Ritch Road at approximately 3:40 p.m. The collision involved a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by 48-year-old Ryan Page of China and a Ford F-650 commercial motor vehicle operated by 64-year-old Douglas Boivin of Jay.

Investigators say the pickup truck crossed the center line and struck the commercial vehicle head-on. The driver of the commercial vehicle attempted to steer to the right to avoid the crash but was unable to do so.

Page was pronounced dead at the scene. Boivin was not injured.

A secondary crash occurred when a third vehicle swerved to avoid the pickup truck, which had come to rest in the roadway, and struck a guardrail. The driver of that vehicle reported minor injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.

Maine State Police were assisted at the scene by the Traffic Safety Unit, Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit, Vassalboro Fire and Rescue, Augusta Fire and Rescue, and Delta Ambulance.
