The hustle and bustle of the holidays is already buzzing around in the air. You can feel the wallets bulging, the receipts- receipting, and the crowds of people rushing through the aisles.

In Maine, we take our holiday shopping very seriously. It's almost like it's a supermarket sweep style situation and we all get ready. Coffee's in hand, air pods in ears, and we're revving up our carts.

Which stores should you check out this year in Maine? I've compiled a list of my very favorites for the holiday season all while avoiding the obvious choices like Wal Mart or large chain stores.

I always begin my shopping at EllieAnna Gift Shop on 785 Main Street in Lewiston. It's a charming boutique with an incredible selection. This local gem has an excellent range of locally crafted items, from trendy gifts and beautiful decorations to amazing clothing. I have purchased many sweaters from this shop and don't even get me started on the scarfs! The store simply exudes a cozy yet trendy small-town atmosphere. This is an ideal spot to choose to shop for the holidays.

Next on my list is the Marketplace at Augusta on Civic Center Drive in Augusta. Why? Because they have 52 stores all in this perfect little village that tends to all needs! More specifically, I enjoy going to The Paper Store, 5 Below, Torrid, and Barnes & Noble.

Don't even get me started on The Paper Store. Despite its name, it's far more than a shop that sells paper. This specialty gift store offers fashion, bath & body, gifts, books, food, and so much more. Who would have guessed so many things could be found in a store named after paper?

At 5 Below you can find everything in the store priced from $1 to $5 all the time. Where else can you get a better deal than that?

Ladies and gentlemen, clear the kiddo's out of the room because this is an adult favorite. Torrid is a sexy and fun store that specializes in sizes for all of us average woman, ranging from size 10 and up. From intimate wear to clothing for when the lights are back on, Torrid is a must-visit.

Many of us know and love Barnes & Noble so it has to be on my list. While Barnes & Noble is a national chain, it provides an incredible experience for every shopper from the moment you step inside. Beyond the books and toys for kids, my personal favorite at B&N is the selection of personal cards. Once you've finished your shopping, swing by to pick up these unique, heartfelt, funny, and distinctly different cards that are not found anywhere else.
