According to the Lewiston Sun Journal, former Skowhegan Fire Department Chief Tom Keene has passed away after a battle with COVID-19.

The 66 year old former firefighter was admitted to Reddington-Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan on Monday, November 16th.  He was reportedly suffering the affects of pneumonia and COVID-19.

Current Skowhegan fire chief Shawn Howard said the entire department was heartbroken over Keene's passing.

Keene's firefighting career began in Norridgewock, where his father was the chief.  In 1976, he joined the Skowhegan Fire Department.  Keene had served as the town's fire chief from 1992 to 2001 and again from 2008 to 2014.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, a Celebration of Life for Keene will be postponed until the Spring.

Tom Keene, thank you for your decades of service to the Central Maine community.
