According to the Kennebec Journal, Gardiner High School has temporarily suspended their Girls Basketball season following COVID concerns after a recent team trip to Florida.

Over the holiday break, the Gardiner team traveled to the Sunshine State to compete with other teams. Since then, cases in Florida and many other states have been skyrocketing, according to reports. And while there's no pre-determined amount of time that the suspension will last, it will last at least for the following week.

Gardiner Area High School Principal, Chad Kempton, told the KJ,

“With a lot of teams, there are times when there are spikes in cases that you’ve got to take a pause and shut things down. Games can be rescheduled. There are several other schools that are having to do the same thing we are. … It’s unfortunate for any team, it doesn’t matter what team it is or what school it is, it’s unfortunate that there’s a disruption there. But given the number of cases that are here in Maine and across the country, it’s not really a surprise.”

While Gardiner was in Florida they went 0-3 against two different teams, one from Florida and one from New Jersey. The games were held in Orlando.
