Driver Injured Following Collision With Freight Train in Maine on Monday Afternoon
The driver of a small car was injured in a crash with a train in Maine on Monday afternoon.
According to an article published by WGME 13, the crash happened in the small Maine town of Enfield at about 4:15 on Monday afternoon. Police say that an oncoming freight train struck the car at the Hammett Road crossing.
The train then dragged the car down the tracks a little bit before coming to a stop.
Remarkably, the driver of the car only sustained minor injuries. No one on the train was injured. Police say the train never derailed and the freight that it was carrying was unharmed.
WGME reported that witnesses of the crash say that the red emergency lights indicating an oncoming train did not begin flashing until after the train had already struck the vehicle.
At this time, the cause of the crash remains under investigation. We're just glad that given it was such a small car and such a large train, that the injuries remained minor.
This is a developing story and we will continue to keep it updated as more information becomes available to us.
