The restaurant business has never really been easy, but it has gotten a lot more difficult in recent years.

Many new restaurants fail within the first few years.  We have even seen iconic restaurants close up shop after being around for decades.

That is why we were so shocked to find out that one of Central Maine's best pizza places has been around for over half a century.  In fact, this place has been serving up slices for over six decades.

When the team at Whipper's first started making pizzas, the cost of a gallon of gas was 31 cents, Eisenhower was president, and we were almost a decade away from landing on the Moon.

Whipper’s Pizza in Augusta

According to their website, the place has been serving up pizza since 1960.  So as of 2024, they have been in business for 64 years!

As a traditional pizzeria, they do not need to try to be trendy.  Instead, they focus on making great pizza the way they have for the last 64 years.  The eatery's very traditional list of toppings includes pepperoni, hamburger, sausage, meatballs, bacon, salami, green peppers, onions, and olives.

Not only is the pizza great, but it is also very affordable.  A personal (8”) one-topping pizza is only $8.  Want to feed the entire family?  A 16” one-topping is only $21.75.  Considering what prices are like these days, that’s not too bad.

Whipper’s Pizza also serves up calzones, subs, chicken wraps, steak wraps, and more.

They also have chicken tender, haddock, and fried shrimp baskets.

Check out their menu HERE.

You’ll find Whipper’s Pizza on Bangor Street in Augusta, and you can keep up with what they are doing on their Facebook page.
