What To Expect At Portland, Maine's Armored MMA Event May 2026

There are things you'd expect to see at Portland's Cross Insurance Arena, like concerts, games, monster trucks, and maybe even a comedian spilling his beer while trying to make the crowd laugh.

But, what you'd probably never expect is two fully armored human men entering a cage and swinging medieval weapons at each other.

Yes. Like some bonus footage from Game of Thrones mixed with a UFC Fight Night.

And yet, it's happening, folks.

Armored MMA, Medieval Cage Fights Coming To Portland, Maine

According to Cross Insurance, on May 30, Portland will host Armored MMA. Starting at 7 pm, fighters dressed head to toe in steel armor, jump, or most likely walk slowly, into a cage to swing swords at each other.

There are shields, axes, and no concern for personal comfort. It's medieval combat, but with modern MMA thrown in.

So, apparently, we've evolved as a society just enough to livestream knight fights.

The visuals alone are probably worth the watch and price of admission. There's chainmail, metal gloves, heavy breathing, the whole thing.

Honestly, Maine feels like the perfect place for this to happen. We already enjoy lumberjack competitions, ice fishing, and arguing about property lines; this seems like it tracks.

And I know you are all wondering, but no, it is not cosplay.

These fighters are athletes, with real training, real hits, and there's a real possibility of someone getting seriously injured.
