Back River Bistro in Wiscasset, Maine, is closing for good.

If you want one last chance for a meal or to stop in, you've got until the end of the month before the final goodbye.

Its owners, Matt and Corrinna Stum, shared on Facebook that while they've enjoyed their four years and the community in Wiscasset, they've made the difficult decision to end this particular chapter.

When Is Back River Bistro in Wiscasset, Maine, Closing?

On both Back River Bistro's website and social media pages, the last day of service for the restaurant is listed as Friday, October 30, 2026.

The restaurant first opened in 2022, according to the Wiscasset Newspaper, with a focus on "upscale, farm-to-table dining."

It took over the 65 Gardiner Street location, which was once the home of Little Village Bistro.

Why Is Back River Bistro in Wiscasset, Maine, Closing?

While one specific reason to close Back River Bistro wasn't given, the Stums highlighted that "another opportunity is knocking" and that they are growing their family with their second child expected in January 2027.

That exact "opportunity" hasn’t been revealed yet, but the couple says they’re excited for what comes next.

Sometimes it's just the end of one chapter and the start of another.

What’s Next for the Back River Bistro Owners?

I don't think the Stums are done with their food journey.

The Wiscasset Newspaper noted the decades of restaurant experience the two have accumulated, including their previous eatery, Ruby's West End in Portland, as well as work with Fore Street Restaurant and Central Provisions, among others.

Clearly, they've had multiple chapters in their life's book.

What comes next, time will tell. But their Wiscasset restaurant has left them with plenty of memories and connections to carry forward.

On to the next!

Maybe the next time we hear from the Stums, it'll be some exciting new food news Mainers will get to partake in. Fingers crossed!
