This. This is why the people of Maine continue to represent us as a powerhouse state.

Founded in Belgrade, Maine, Hammond Lumber Company has been a longstanding member of the Lewiston community and has stepped up to help in a really big way.

A $100,000 type of big way.

Following the tragedy last week that turned the Lewiston-Auburn community upside down without an ounce of notice, Hammond Lumber has just announced they are donating $100,000 directly to the victims and their families to immediately support them in any way they need.

According to their press release, here's a statement directly from the company themselves:

"On behalf of our company and employees, our hearts go out to the victims and their loved ones. The devastating events in Lewiston have deeply touched our hearts, and we stand in unity with our close-knit Maine communities during this difficult time. We hope that these donations will help alleviate some of the burdens faced as we navigate going forward," said Mike Hammond, president and CEO of Hammond Lumber Company."

Here's what they are donating:

  • $20,000 to the Maine Community Foundation’s Lewiston-Auburn Area Response Fund
  • $20,000 to the United Way of Androscoggin County's Community Fund
  • $20,000 to the LA Metro Chamber Foundation
  • $15,000, including all proceeds from purchased Lewiston Strong apparel, to support the first annual Lewiston Strong Memorial Benefit Softball Tournament on Saturday, November 11 in Lewiston
  • $25,000 in funding to be distributed toward the forthcoming needs of the community

$100,000 is incredible.

Hammond also said in their press release that they "express profound gratitude to all the medical providers and law enforcement who have shown immense heroism and unwavering commitment to protecting and assisting others in a time of need."

Amazing.

That's just one more example of kindness coming out of New England in the wake of tragedy. We are Lewiston Strong.
