Here’s When Daylight Saving Time Kicks in for Maine & Massachusetts
It's that time again to spring ahead and fall back! Let's all hope for the darkness to fade away and the sun to stay around and hang out with us a bit longer.
So let's get down to business. When is this going to happen? Fall back already began in November, and now we are all eagerly anticipating to spring ahead!
What is Daylight Saving Time?
According to Wikipedia, it is a system where clocks are advanced by one hour during the summer months, which gives an extra hour of daylight in the evenings. This practice is observed to make better use of daylight during the warmer seasons.
Daylight Saving Time officially starts in Maine and Massachusetts on the second Sunday of March. That till effectively take place on March 10. Our states will then fall back on the first Sunday of November when it rolls around again, according to CBS news.
Therefore, on Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 3:00 am local daylight time, the clocks will move forward. This will result in sunrise and sunset happening one hour later than the previous day, giving us more daylight in the evening. Hurray!
The History of Daylight Saving Time
DST first came around during World War I. The country of Germany introduced it in 1916 to help conserve fuel by extending evening light, leading other European nations to follow suit.
The United States adopted DST in 1918. Even though Congress repealed it in 1919, the states had the option to continue. It came back during World War II, looked at year-round, and was reinstated in 1966 with the current biannual clock changes, according to CBS News.
